At the Restaurant - En el restaurante

Listening en inglés. Akane and Ruth do a role play of a scene in a restaurant.

Waitress:   Hi, welcome to our restaurant.
Customer: Thank you very much.
W:  How many people are there?
C:  Just the one.
W:  Just one person, ok. Smoking or non-smoking?
C:  Non-smoking please.
W:  Alright, come along and have a seat right here.
C:  Thanks very much.
W:  Here are your menus and a glass of water.
C:  Thank you.

W:  Can I get you something to drink?
C:  Mmm I was wondering about this wine actually. What’s your house wine?
W:  Our house wine is this red wine right here and it’s 10 dollars.
C:  Oh, I think I’ll have a glass of that please.
W: OK. Just a glass?
C:  How much is it for a bottle?
W:  A bottle is 10 dollars.
C:  Oh sorry. Yeah I’ll have a bottle then, thanks.
W:  Can I take your order for an appetizer?
C:  Mmm I quite like the look of several of these. Now the melon, does that come with anything else?
W:  The melon? Well, it just comes with some appetizer. But it’s pretty much just plain melon with garnish and some whipped cream.
C:  OK. What would you recommend?
W:  Well I really recommend the fries. They’re quite good and they come with cheese and tomatoes and some chili on top.
C:  Oh they sound nice. Ok, I’ll have those thanks.

W:  Are you ready to order your meal?
C:  Yes I think I’m ready now, thank you. I think I’ll have this vegetable goulash.
Can you just tell me, is it vegetarian?
W:  It is, actually. It’s all vegetarian but it does come with cheese.
C:  Oh that’s ok, I eat cheese. I’ll have that please. Do I get anything with it?
W:  It comes with a side order of rice or potatoes. What would you like?
C:  I’d like rice please.
W:  Ok.

W:  Did you enjoy your meal?
C:  It was delicious, thank you. It was really nice.
W:  Can I get you some tea, coffee or dessert?
C:  Oh, I’d like to look at the dessert menu please.
W: Well, here’s the dessert menu.
C:  Mmm, these all look nice. Oh I think I must go for this chocolate cake here.
W:  The chocolate cake. Very good choice. That’s our most popular dish.
C:  Could I get cream with it please?
W:  Would you like custard or whipped cream?
C:  Whipped cream please.
W:  Coming right up.

C:  Could I have the bill please?
W:  Certainly. Here you go.

Vocabulario:

Waitress - camarera / waiter - camarero

Customer = client - cliente  

come along - (phrasal verb). Tiene distintos significados. Aquí significa “sigame” por el contexto.

Can I get you something to drink? - ¿Puedo ofrecerle algo de beber? / ¿Le traigo algo para beber? / ¿Le pongo algo para beber?

I was wondering about - Estoy pensando en  (el pasado en inglés pero el presente en español. Realmente se refiere a una acción en el presente)

appetizer - aperitivo

pretty much = almost - más o menos, principalmente, prácticamente.

• It’s pretty much just plain melon with garnish and some whipped cream. - Es prácticamente melón solo con guarnición y un poco de crema batida.

• They pretty much lost everything in the fire. - Perdieron casi todo en el incendio.
• Both offers are pretty much the same. - Las dos ofertas son prácticamente iguales.
• The bottle is pretty much empty. - La botella está prácticamente vacía:  

Coming right up.- Enseguida.

Could I have the bill please? - La cuenta, por favor. / ¿Me podría traer la cuenta, por favor ?

Certainly. Here you go. - Por supuesto, aquí lo tiene.
Here you go. = Here you are.

 

Gramática:

• How much? / How many? Para cantidades con sustantivos incontables y contables.

Una traducción:
Camarera: Hola, bienvenida a nuestro restaurante.
Cliente:      Muchas gracias.
Camarera: ¿Cuántas personas hay?
Cliente:      Sólo yo.
Camarera: Sólo una persona, ok. Fumar o no fumar?
Cliente:      No fumadores por favor.
Camarera: Bueno, sigame y siéntase aquí.
Cliente:      Muchas gracias.
Camarera: Aquí están los menús y un vaso de agua.
Cliente:      Gracias.

Camarera: ¿Le pongo algo para de beber?
Cliente:      Mmm estoy pensando en este vino. ¿Cuál es el vino de la casa?
Camarera: Nuestro vino de la casa es este vino tinto aquí y cuesta 10 dólares.
Cliente:      Oh, creo que voy a tomar un vaso de eso, por favor.

Cliente:      Mmm me gusta bastante el aspecto de algunas de ellas. Bien, el melón, ¿eso vienen con algo más?
Camarera: El melón? Bueno, sólo viene con algún adorno. Pero es prácticamente melón solo con guarnición y un poco de crema batida.
Cliente:      ¿Qué me recomienda?
Camarera: Bueno, yo realmente recomiendo las patatas fritas. Son muy buenos y vienen con queso y tomate y un poco de chile encima.
Cliente:      Oh, suena bien. Vale, voy a tomar esa gracias.

Camarera: ¿Está usted preparada para pedir el segundo plato?
Cliente:      Sí, creo que estoy lista ahora, gracias. Creo que voy a pedir este estofado de verduras.   ¿Puede decirme, si es vegetariano?
Camarera: Lo es. Es vegetariano pero viene con el queso.
Cliente:      Oh, está bien, yo como el queso. ¿Viene con algo?
Camarera: Viene con una guarnición de arroz o patatas.
Cliente:      Me gustaría el arroz por favor.
Camarera: Ok.

Camarera: ¿Le ha gustado la comida?
Cliente:       Estaba delicioso, gracias. Estaba muy bien
Camarera: ¿Puedo ofrecerle un té, un café o un postre?
Cliente:       Oh, me gusta mirar el menú de postres por favor. Mmm estos todos parecen bien. Oh, creo que me tomo este pastel de chocolate aquí.
Camarera:  Pastel de chocolate. Muy buena elección, es nuestro plato más popular.
Cliente:       ¿Me gustaría un poco de nata con ella, por favor?
Camarera: ¿Prefería natillas o crema batida?
Cliente:       Crema batida por favor.
Camarera:  En Seguida.
Cliente:       ¿La cuenta, por favor?
Camarera:  Por supuesto. Aquí lo tiene.
