What is your town like?

Kathryn is describing her town in the southeast of England.

Interviewer: And where are you from?
Kathryn: Ah, from England.
Interviewer: OK. Where in England?
Kathryn: Ah, in the Southeast. A small town just by the seaside.
Interviewer: Nice. So you live by the beach?
Kathryn: Yes, about ten minutes from the beach.
Interviewer: Wow! Do you surf?
Kathryn: It's not the kind of place you can surf. The waves are too small and the sea is too cold
Interviewer: OK. What kind of place is your town?
Kathryn: What kind of place?
Interviewer: Yeah!
Kathryn: It's..it's..well very very small. It's normally really busy in the summer. There's not very much to do there, but when the sun is shining you can go to the beach. It's really good.
Interviewer: Yeah, sounds like a great place. How far is it from London?
Kathryn: Ah, about 70 miles, so that's about two hours by train.

Here Matthew tells us what Manchester is like.

Interviewer: Tell us about Manchester. What is Manchester like?
Matthew: Manchester's well known for being quite a grim, industrial town. but it's got a more modern reputation as a center of arts, and there's lots of cool music that comes out of there. Oasis from Manchester is the most famous band, and the Smiths, kind of fifteen years ago, came from Manchester.
Interviewer: Oh, that's great. I love the Smiths, actually. Do you like Manchester?
Matthew: I think it's a fantastic place, yeah.

Kathryn describe su pueblo en el sureste de Inglaterra. Es una pequeña ciudad junto al mar.

Entrevistador: ¿Y de dónde eres?
Kathryn: Ah, de Inglaterra.
Entrevistador: Bien. ¿Dónde en Inglaterra?
Kathryn: Ah, en el sureste. Un pequeño pueblo justo al lado del mar.
Entrevistador: ¡Que bien!  Entonces, ¿vives cerca de la playa?
Kathryn: Sí, unos diez minutos de la playa.
Entrevistador: ¡Que guau! ¿Haces surf?
Kathryn: No es un un lugar donde se pueda hacer surf. Las olas son demasiadas pequeñas y el mar está muy fría.

Kathryn: Es. .. es .. pues, muy pequeño. Normalmente está muy concurrido en verano. No hay mucho que hacer allí, pero en días soleados puedes ir a la playa. Está muy bien.
Entrevistador: Sí, suena como un lugar fantástico. ¿A qué distancia está de  Londres?
Kathryn: Ah, a unos 112 kilómetros, entonces tardas unas dos horas en tren.

Aquí Matthew nos habla de Manchester. ¿Cómo es Manchester?

Entrevistador: Háblamos acerca de Manchester. ¿Cómo es Manchester?
Matthew: Manchester es bien conocido por ser un pueblo bastante sombrío, un pueblo industrial. pero también tiene una reputación más moderno como un centro de bellas artes, y hay un montón de buena música que sale de allí. Oasis es de Manchester, y es la banda más famosa, y los Smiths, hace ya unos quince años, es de Manchester.
Entrevistador: Ah, genial. Me encanta los Smiths, de verdad. ¿A ti te gusta  Manchester?
Matthew: Yo creo que es un lugar fantástico, sí.
